How to use a scissors
when covering a book

Using a good sharp scissors is the most important thing when cutting off any excess material from a covered book.

Use the Flat part of the blade

When using a scissors to trim the excess off your book it is vital that you lay the flat side of the scissors against the book.  By doing this you will get a cut closer to the edge of the book with less movement whilst trimming of excess.

Don't Fully Open Blades

There is no need to have the scissor blades fully open to trim your book.  As per picture it is best advised to only slightly open your blades.  This way you will have better control over your scissors and get a cleaner cut on the material.

Keep your scissors bottom blade flat against the book

By using the flat part of the scissors blade against the book you will get a precise cut as you run the scissors alongside the book.

How to position the scissors

When you are starting to cut the material it is important that you hold the scissors at a slight angle.  The picture you see here is not the correct way to angle it as is perfectly straight.

Correct angle 70°

How to position the scissors

Instead let the blade slightly fall towards the inner part of the book as per picture here and this way you will again have better control and a more even cut.

Cleaning

It is also important to keep your scissors clean.  Over time you can get a build up of glue on your blades and this will inhibit a clean smooth cutting process.  Simply use a rubbing alcohol or any cleaning liquid that can remove adhesive.
