World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. The mission of World Book Day is to promote reading for enjoyment, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
World Book Day was created by UNESCO on the 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide commemoration of books and reading.
The first World Book Day in the Ireland and the UK took place in 1997 to encourage young people to find the enjoyment of reading.
That’s why the celebration of World Book Day continues to encourage children and young people to read for pleasure through its work with authors, illustrators, publishers, bookshops and libraries.
